The Polaris manual says that Type F ATF is an acceptable substitute when Polaris Hub oil is unavailable. Type F is getting hard to find, it is a pretty old spec. As for the price, I can get the Polaris hub oil for about $3.50 - $4.00, and that is good for a year of changes for me. That seems pretty cheap to me. There is only one oil that Polaris approves for use in your Ranger front drive - Polaris Demand Drive Premium LT Hub Oil. This is the common oil sold in Polaris dealers and is the only certified oil Polaris will recommend. There are three other alternatives that are approved by Hilliard. First is John Deere oil labeled as J20D. I bought the Lucas hub oil as a last ditch effort to avoid disassembling the back of my bike for a leak, then have to d it again in a few thousand more miles when I need another rear tire.. When I emptied the old gear oil and topped off the final drive with the Lucas hub oil, you could see oil seeping out of the housing while the bike was cold. The guy at the counter has told me twice that I need to check/change the fluid in the front hubs. He said I should use the same fluid as the front differential takes, Demand Drive Plus. I have never heard of fluid being used in the front hubs, always grease. Well, when I took the hub off today, that's excatly what I found, grease. Last Month the 12oz AGL was $8 and some change, today it is $12.99! Dealer said that oil prices have went up. WTF! Has anyone used any safe alternatives for the two?
